The Nest Creative Space

The Nest Creative Space

I am so happy to have a creative sanctuary to paint in. A couple of years ago I found The Nest in Waterloo. It’s an amazing space for artists and makers. Run by the wonderful Missy and Dan, The Nest has been a blessing and safe Haven during the pandemic. The sheer size and privacy or the building allows us to keep creating and working without risk.

BEYOND Exhibition May 17 2019

My First solo exhibition. I felt an urgency to deliver this show and so glad I did. It was a great success packed to the rafters. So many artists have had to postpone or reschedule their shows due to the pandemic . I love the emergence of virtual galleries, proving that nothing can dampen the creative spirit.

Upcoming Exhibition May17

A while since my last post. I now have a great studio at The Nest which houses many artists and makers. Have been busy preparing for my first solo show on May 17, so much to do but very excited. Will be posting more pics on website of the new paintings and more about the show. The title is BEYOND.
I struggled with the title but have settled on this as it bears the sentiment of what the paintings are about..

City Life

May 14th, 2015

I have come back to the city to live while we do some long overdue home improvements to my tiny house in Surry Hills.. Its amazing how we humans are so adaptable. I thought I would hate living in such cramped conditions, especially with a large dog and a needy cat. I love Surry Hills, it reminds me of New York. So many wonderful cafes and restaurants and so close to the park.. I will be painting at Peter Naef gallery as he has kindly made some space for me out the back. I have some large work that I need to get done, and no room at home. It will be interesting to see how urban life effects the paintings..

Biggest Commission

Biggest Commission

As you can see in the pic, this was huge, almost couldn't get the canvas through the door. To begin with, I was petrified and wondered if I would be able to work on this scale. I actually found it easier to break it down into quadrants which proved to be manageable.
This artwork now proudly adorns the reception of CMC Talent in Melbourne.

My Amazing Studio

My Amazing Studio

This past year has been one of great expansion and an evolution in my painting. I have an amazing studio to work in, "The Boathouse: while we live here on the water. This has given me the freedom to work on a larger scale and the privacy to crank up my old school favourites :"The Cure" whilst painting. Something about Robert Smith helps me get in the zone. Ned our beautiful black Lab loves to keep me company and chases the Geese as they paddle by. If I want, I can open the doors and look out onto to water but most of the time, am totally absorbed by the process of creating.
I have been selling through a Gallery in Surry Hills and have steady commissions so am putting in the hours and my fingernails and suffering, [for their art]. The response to my Photon work has been amazing. I have a million more ideas and cant wait to get them on canvas.
One problem that most Artists struggle with is money and funding of materials. Its expensive to paint and getting the supports made, ridiculous!. I have tried to make them and fail dismally.. My wonderful partner came to the rescue after seeing my frustrated tears. He is now producing beautiful, strong custom stretcher frames for me. He loves the challenge and I think he is a closet carpenter. All I have to do is stretch the canvas and do the painting. Life changing, thanks Chris, you are my hero. XXX
